All,
As of January 15, 2012, I have resigned as CO of the USS Orlando. As a result, it will be mothballed. Perhaps one day it can be resurrected, but for now I am retiring from simming. For more detail, please see the crew email. |
After putting the position up on the manifest about eight months ago to see if I could catch anything, I am pleased to announce that we have netted our first Romulan Liaison Officer, Lieutenant Dvorak Skala!
Welcome aboard, Lieutenant! I'm sure you'll be eliciting some interesting looks as you stroll down the hallway. |
| At this time, I would like to announce the arrival of the Orlando's first Marine Executive Officer, 2nd Lieutenant Tal Marek! Welcome aboard, Lieutenant! |
All,
It is my pleasure to announce the arrival of Ensign Alexandria Sevier, who will be joining us as our new Chief Counselor!
Welcome aboard Ensign! |
| As of October 1, 2011, per crew vote, the USS Orlando has switched over to a modified version of the Star Trek Online uniform. Rank images have been changed to reflect this and a new "Information" section will be added in the coming days for uniform reference. |
Wow! I'm not sure what it is, but we've gotten a sudden wave of new crew members!
I'm excited to announce the arrival of Ensign Yehonathan Aharonov as our new Chief Diplomatic officer!
Welcome Aboard, Enisgn! |
All, I would like to take a moment to welcome aboard two crew members who have joined us in the last week.
Lieutenant Zekk Alana has taken on the role of Chief Engineering Officer and Lieutenant Christian Knight will be filling the position of Chief Strategic Operations Officer.
Welcome to the both of you, and I look forward to simming with you! |
The mission is wrapping up nicely now everyone! The (Excelsior-class) Orlando has just been destroyed. Everyone should now feel free to begin writing about what happens afterwards. We'll be working on this for about two weeks (more if everyone's active).
Also, I'd like to announce the promotion of Ensign Caleb Noventum to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Congratulations, Lieutenant! |
Hear Ye! Hear ye!
After over two and a half years serving on the Orlando, it has come time for us to say our goodbyes as we finish our last mission on her before transferring to a new ship. At the end of Mission 9, the Excelsior-class USS Orlando will be going out with a bang in order to save the lives of innocent people.
Fear not, though, for this is not the end of the Orlando! I have received special dispensation from the Horizon Fleet Council to have our new ship renamed in memoriam of the Excelsior-class vessel. We will, therefore, be transferring to the newly completed USS Orlando NCC-10722-A, a Legacy-class vessel, at the end of our current mission.
The website will continue to reflect the Excelsior-class design up until the destruction of the Orlando, at which point I will begin the transformation of the site into a Legacy-class theme.
If anyone has questions about this, please contact me and I will be more than willing to answer them for you. |
| Mission 9: "The Farpoint Incident" has officially begun! For more information, check out the "Current mission" section of the site, or the Orlando wiki (you can get there through the "Information" tab on the left of the site. |
| All, so you all know, I'm back from LOA and we'll be starting the new mission within the first few days of February. |
All,
I will be with severely limited internet access for the month of January and as such I will be on LOA from the 1st through the 28th. If there is anything that you need, please contact Commander Naros and/or Lt. Commander Darvetti.
The last posts of the mission are very close to being finished, so once those are posted, the Orlando will officially be on Shore Leave.
Have a Happy New Year, and I'll talk to you all later! |
All,
I had a little bit of free time on my hands so I made new bio images for everyone and uploaded them. I may, or may not, do some for the NPC's as well. That will depend on if I can find images for them. If you have an NPC that you created and would like an image made for it, go ahead and email me the image. |
All, it came to my attention a day or two ago that the chat page wasn't working properly. I have since fixed the problem and it should work again, though the page will now open in a new tab/window (depending on your browser settings).
If you haven't yet, I'd encourage everyone to stop by chat at some point. It's a great way to get to know the people you're simming with. |
That's right! The USS Orlando now has its very own Facebook page! On it there will be posted news updates, as well as a summary of the current mission and much, much more!
All are welcome, you don't even have to be a player on the Orlando! (Though we'd certainly love to have you!) All you need to do is take a look at the bottom of the navigation bar on the left hand side of the site and right below the "Credits" link, is the "like-box" that you can use to "like" the Orlando! |
Come one, come all to the USS Orlando recruiting drive!
As our current mission comes to a close and everyone gets some time in-character to relax, I would like everyone to be doing their best to get our name out there. Without a crew to man the stations, we can't go anywhere very fast, now can we?
Once I've decided on what our next mission will be, I will be focusing on recruiting with that, but for now I plan on writing some ads detailing what we've already done.
If anyone knows someone that is interested in writing, Trek, or science fiction in general, send them our way. Together we can make the Orlando boom once again! |
All, below is a message from the Horizon Fleet Community Coordinator. I'd like you all to consider taking part in what is mentioned in this, though I understand if you can't or don't want to.
To all the fellow HF simmers:
In a collaborative effort from the Horizon Fleet DPA department – we’ve finally made some progress and have a couple of things to share with you. J
The first noteworthy, and most time sensitive, item we have to announce is the Halloween themed IRC chat that will be held in Horizon Fleet on Sunday evening. Come ‘dressed’ as anything you’d like – stay in character if you so choose; it would be especially entertaining to see who can stay in their Halloween character and manage to interject relevant lines from their said character (be it book or movie or video game*) into the general conversation. Especially for those of you who don’t often or have never before visited us in IRC – we’re looking forward to having you stop by! This will be the first of many theme nights to come, though they may not all be hosted in Horizon Fleet main chat, and any and all participation that will help us to make theme nights a success is greatly appreciated. J
The next item up is forum related. Stop by the HF forum and visit the new HF Pet threads! We have both OOC and IC pet threads in the HF forum under General Chat. Feel free to post a picture or tell us a favorite story of your personal pet – or visit the other side of the pet threads and tell us about any pets your character may have. Pictures and any pet related posts you’ve done are welcome! J
For those who don’t often visit (or have never perused) the HF forum, you can find a wealth of information on just about everything Star Trek! Many players of many ranks have contributed to make the Horizon Fleet forum a full, fun, and informative place to browse. The pet area is just the newest topic in the good feeling fun that the General Chat area has to offer. While you’re there, you may want to stop by the Word Association or Person Above games. See real pictures of our writers who’ve chosen to share them, read about how other players have come to join Horizon Fleet, or what they listen to while they’re writing. (The forum also offers a great way to connect with other players if you’re a person who doesn’t really get in to IRC chat.)
Please be looking for the next news installment for information on upcoming community events. We’d like to plan a scavenger hunt, another theme night, and possibly even a department night** in the near future. Until next time, fellow simmers!
Commander Jaen Thomas
Community Coordinator
Horizon Fleet DPA
*Please remember that Horizon Fleet IRC is rated 13+ as we have simmers of all ages in the fleet. We ask that you respect the IRC rules and rating when choosing a ‘character’ for all theme nights. |
Hey everyone!
I've been updating the main site a bit today, mostly the welcome message and the database though.
Two things I'd specifically like to point out is that Horizon Fleet has approved a new Fleet Story arc, because the creator of the old one asked that it be removed. I've removed the section about the old story arc, and put in a section about the new one. If you have any questions about it, feel free to ask, since I'm one of the creators of this one ;)
The other thing (which I know Mr. Jackson asked for a while ago) is that I have finally gotten around to getting a Starfleet/Marine rank comparison chart up on the database. It's under General Information. I didn't do enlisted ranks, because with the seldom exception, we don't use them.
Anyway, I hope you all are doing well, and I've got my eyes peeled for any posts that you put up. (Remember that we have posting rate requirements based on rank) |
For those that are unaware, the USS Orlando has its very own wiki page, as part of the Horizon Fleet wiki.
As part of this, I would like to encourage everyone to go to register an account with the wiki and create a character page for your character. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
The Orlando wiki can be found at http://wiki.horizonfleet.net/index.php?title=USS_Orlando |
Good evening all!
It is my extreme pleasure to announce that several of our crew have received Horizon Fleet's Post of the Month Award for the post located at http://uss-orlando.kersare.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=269&p=2442#p2442
Congratulations to all involved! |
I guess I've kinda been neglecting the news page on the site. I'll try to keep up with it from now on.
Anyway, as you can see, we have a nice, shiny new site set-up. I would like to thank Tony and Michelle Meyer for all the hard work they put into this. They did a much better job in a much faster time than I could have hoped to do. Thank you both! |
Attention all hands!
We have recently been awarded two of Horizon Fleets Highest Honors. Firstly, Horizon Fleets SIMM of the Year Award. Secondly, Commander Androski has been awarded Horizon Fleets CO of the Year Award!
Congratulations everyone! Keep up the amazing work! |
It is my pleasure to announce that the USS Orlando has received Horizon Fleets Latinum SIMM of the Month Award!
This is the highest monthly honor we can get and I am very proud of you all!
Keep up the great work! |
| Everyone, please welcome Doctor Terrence Hawk as our new Chief Medical officer! |
Everyone, I would like to announce the arrival of our new Chief Counselor, Ensign Ayesha Salome. Ensign Salome comes to us as a first time simmer so, along with the usual welcoming, I would like it if you could all help her out in learning how we do things.
Welcome aboard Ensign! |
I was talking with Lara today, and I realized that I did not announce our new site header. It is made by a friend of mine, Aaron P., who plays Mordred Ocal, our Task Group CO. I'd like to thank him for it.
Thanks Aaron! |
| This Tuesday, the 7th, I will be attending a scientific convention and will be unavailable for that day. If anyone has an emergency they should contact the XO, otherwise, just email it to me and I'll look at it when I get back late that night. |
Welcome one and all to the new, new home for the USS Orlando. After some time of fidgeting around, I have finally gotten this site up to the point where we can use it. There are still some kinks to be worked out, but, this will be our new home from now on.
Any comments, please feel free to email me. |
